The 1837 edition of Foster’s Complete Hoyle, R.F Foster also states that the “game of poker” as first played in the US came from the game “As Nas”.But in the 1990s some gaming scholars challenge this statement they claim that the Poker’s closest European predecessor was a game called “poque”, a French game similar to poker. Poque and its German equivalent, pochen (“to brag as bluff lit”) were both based on the 16th-century Spanish game primero. French colonists brought this game to their settlements in North America and surrounding areas, which became the part of the United States.
